Poems I wrote long ago...

Madness (revised)
We dance like mad wind beneath life and beauty
Our fiery spirits shudder at the site of the icy moon
Impish feet trample long laid shadows,
Aching to dream one dream
Our laughter fills the cool night air,
haunting those who sleep
We taunt the sea... so that it may devour us
It answers not
We traipse into the darkness

Awake
Towards the darkened sea I turn my wandering soul and behold the waves crashing upon the sandy shore.

The greyness of the sleeping world is cast in every hue from every object to be seen, but I remain awake and aware while other drone away in the soft serenity of sleep.

I see the things they fail to see because they've closed their eyes...

I stare into the distance.

The cold chill of midnight penetrates my inmost being.

I shudder

The Way Through the Woods...
The night fell soft upon the land
The moon hung bright and still
The songs of winged creatures filled the air
The breeze sighed through the trees

A walk through the forest at midnight
Moon hidden above the trees
Creeping along the forest floor
Sight stolen by the darkness

Images of unreal things
Tiptoe into the night
Nothing there but silhouettes
Dancing in my mind

A chilling wind runs up my spine
As voices whistle through the leaves
Nothing there but songs remembered
From some dream long ago

Forests of the real and forests that grow within
We wander through them both
Lost or found, in light or darkness
Can you keep to the path of sanity?

A poem that I love...

Hope

by Emily Dickinson

Hope is the thing with feathers

That perches in the soul,

And sings the tune--without the words,

And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;

And sore must be the storm

That could abash the little bird

That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,

And on the strangest sea;

Yet, never, in extremity,

It asked a crumb of me.

Rekindle Me

Starsha Brown (2004)
There is an anxious and unsettled yearning beneath this skin
The hours are days and weeks gone by.
How shall the end begin?
Memories glisten in the sullen tears as they trace a way to freedom
Hastily they're wiped away,
Quick, before someone sees them!
Nothing's clearer than the love that set my soul on fire
Yet instead of tending it,
I let the flame retire.
Burning coals within me glow, yearning to ignite
Hoping for a passing chance to illuminate the night
Wearisome this life becomes from time to time
What could give my down an up,
A purpose to my rhyme?
Nothing stirs my slumbering heart like the love my Savior gives
No matter where this sheep strays off to,
He's willing to forgive
Renew my spirit, Father, please!
With you I long to stay
Don't let the embers of my joy turn to an ashen grey
Hold me Jesus, close to you
Help me take a stand
I don't always understand this place,
But I know you have a plan.

Haikus by Starsha (various dates)

Down
A grieving spirit
My heart does not understand
Why am I this way?

Healing

Sleep gentle spirit
The pain within you smolders
God shall quench your thirst

Denial

Moonless sky above
Bitter tears of foolishness
Hidden from their eyes

Rest

Weeping heart be still
Oh, who shall ease your mourning?
I'm in the Lord's hands

Make the Most of It!

Falling star burn bright
Your life is such a brief one
Twinkle while you can

Broken

My heart breaks for you
Each piece is etched with sorrow
Forever in pain

Uncertain

Monsters in the dark
In shadows they wait for you
Where is the flashlight?

Betrayal

Tragic hidden moon
The heart of a child is torn
Young innocence slain

Purple Elephants
Big red elephants
Eat blue peanuts all day long
Now they are purple

Croaking
Fat toads dance at night
Wearily the sing of old
Disappearing Earth

A Life Altered

Starsha Brown 2003
Bleeding heart and wounded soul
A razor's edge to take control
Heavy laden with tragic tears
Pursued by heartache and wasted years
Faltered steps and weary woes
Doubt and fear my greatest foes
Evil tools born of an evil plan
To damn the souls of mortal man
The devil came, he tricks us all
Blocks our path to make us fall
Jesus Christ, he came to earth
He lived to die and bring rebirth
One perfect soul to wash us clean
To heal, to comfort, and redeem
He conquered death to save us all
Everyone, both great and small
My life, my joy, the Lord restored
I don't have to bleed anymore

Guarded Heart

Starsha Brown 2003
Untold pain lies within these walls.
Buried secrets paved beneath weary battle scars.
Guarded wearily from outside attackers,
Those plundering through pieces of broken hearts.
Villainous fiends bent on inflicting pain for their pleasure.
Disguised as simple friendly folk
Innocence forsaken
Normality forgotten
This land has been torn apart and left for dead.
Abused and violated is this ground.
Tears of a weeping soul water this soil.
The gates are locked.
The inner halls are empty
Who now shall enter?
Who now shall be trusted?

In Search of Love

by Starsha (1998ish)
My soul should fly like a bird upon the breeze
My heart should spread her newly formed wings
And jump from the cliff she once called home
And glide about the humid air, perfumed with the sweetness of flowers
Soar amongst the clouds
And beneath the celestial bodies of the heavens
The wind beckons my heart to join her
In her travels about the land
To wrap myself in the freedom of her breath
The river beckons my soul to join her
And give myself away to float about in her company
To bathe in the richness and serenity of her currents
The rain beckons my body to join her
To feel her raindrops tip-toe upon my face and caress my skin and bask in the glory of her embrace
I dance among the trees
Swinging my arms like their branches in the wind
My love beckons you to join her
So i can show you things you've never seen before

A trip down memory lane

I'm going to blog a series of old poems from my past over the next month or so. I am not sure when some of these poems were written but I will do my best to put an approximate time on them.

All the poetry I post is copyrighted, just in case you are tempted to swipe it ;-)

And now, the first poem of my series:

Shattered
By Starsha (1999ish)

Emptiness overwhelms me
Where is the happiness I wish to see?
Everything within feels void and hollow
Yet so full of fear, I can't even swallow
My love like shattered glass just tossed aside
Stolen by the evening tide
Broken and scattered in all directions
I didn't even want perfection
I didn't want to be the best
Just a place where my heart could rest
Lend me wings so that I might fly
And water the earth with the tears I cry
Alone with the shadows of a forgetful night
Disturbed and running without sight
They never cared, now it's too late
No one can predict my fate
My lonely spirit is no more
The salty waves crash against the shore

Priority

By Starsha Brown

Save the whales
Save the trees
Save the birds and bumblebees

I love these things that God created
But sometimes I get so aggravated

How about we save the humans who are endangered
The ones we know
The perfect strangers

Instead of paying billions to men who can throw a ball
Lets feed the children
Buy them shoes and clothes
Toys and dolls

Let us love the unlovable
The ones we usually turn our backs to
The smelly, the dirty
The sinful "throw-aways"
They deserve just as much love as we do

The sluts, the whores
The cheating spouses
The poor
The ones who have no houses

The depressed manic depressives who live in mansions
The druggie, the rapist
The ones with no trustworthy intentions

The sick, the sad
Those in prison
All of those for whom the Savior is risen

All of these
They're God's creation
We, like them, deserve damnation

You are no better than these I've listed

We all have mind and hearts

Somehow twisted

To be the first
Become the last
Put these tragedies in the past

Give them love
Give them hope
Give them hope of a brand new start
Give them warmth
Give them food
Give them glue for their broken heart

Honor creation
God has made
Animals
Land
Water
Trees that shade
Remember all people are His Creation too
Show them what His love can do!

The Alternative

by Starsha Brown (2004)
Within these walls there is nothing new
It is the same
Day in and out
Constrained by restrictions of responsible living
A life purposed for something more searches for escape
Obliged to exist but striving for an existence
The dreamer dreams of things unknown
Yearning for a depth of being that expands beyond expectancy
A world beyond these weary walls of normality promises a more tempting fate
Adventurous endeavors await conception
Possibility beckons
What keeps one from going?

Searching (02/03/10)

Who am I? Who are you?
Is this the place you've brought me to?
I'm not so sure what you have planned
Is that your breath or the breath of man?
I want to know just who you are
Not from a man or from a star
Define yourself into me
Because it's you I want to see
I've done studies, I've heard some things
But in those things does your truth ring?
Is that you or the world I hear
Where is the love? Why only fear?
Surely you are more than this
More than the tongue can dare confess
We are so small... of mind and might
I know I want to get this right
Tell me truly. Define yourself
Use your words upon this shelf
Use whatever you wish or will
I'll be quiet and sit still
Show me, teach me, tell me please
If on my face, my feet, my knees
I'll wait as long as you ask me to
For this conversation... just me and you
